Club Meets

Monday

Rowley Park meeting at 6.00pm for a 3 to 4 mile run. This is one of our 'feeder' group nights which is aimed at improvers and those just starting out on the road to fitness. The aim is to show people that running can actually be fun and that you don't have to be an international class runner to belong to a club! Pete Burns, Brian Langston and Nigel Addison coach this session. It's great for those wishing to take up the sport and wanting to find out what club running is all about.

Tuesday

Meeting at the MRI club, St Leonards Avenue, at 6.00pm for a 6.15pm departure. Runs vary between 6 and 10 miles depending on the time of year. This session is for the more experienced runner. Runs are well organised and a mustering system is used which keeps the group together though allowing people to run at their own pace. A back marker ensures that no runner is left on their own as safety is of paramount importance, especially for our female members.

On Tuesdays there is also a speedwork option for those wishing to not only improve their speed but overall fitness. These sessions vary from hillwork to bleep tests. Once a month we have a 'surprise surprise' session where everyone is invited to take part and is always well attended.

Wednesday

Speedwork session at Rowley Park track, meeting at 6.15pm. Costs £1 but if you want to improve then this is the way to go.

Thursday

Very much the same as Tuesday but without the speedwork option. Meeting place and time is the same as Tuesday. In the summer we venture onto Cannock Chase every other Thursday for a pleasant change of scenery (there is also a road run option).

Friday

Similar to a Monday but we meet at the MRI club, St Leonards Avenue at 6.00pm. Jane Bisiker is the coach and takes the 'feeder' group out for a 3 to 4 mile run at a leisurely pace. This has gained in popularity over the last twelve months and is a great way to start the weekend. In the summer months we move up to Stafford Castle for a pleasant change of scenery - still meeting at 6pm though!

Saturday

In the winter the club takes part in various cross country leagues and from October to March the men and women members can, if they wish, represent the club in these events. Runners of all abilities can take part and the teams are not limited to a specific number of runners so anyone can run if they wish. All races are well organised and are free to club members. We take part in the Birmingham and North Staffs cross country leagues as well as the Staffs, Midlands and National championships.

Sunday

Meeting at Marquis Drive, Cannock Chase, at 9.00am. The group are out for around 90 minutes and use this run to train for half and full marathons. It's a great way to get your weekly long run in but in the company of others. The Chase provides a wonderful backdrop for this popular run and whatever the weather the Chase takes some beating. There's also a group that meet at 9am just up from Sister Dora's, again on the Chase. The distances tend to be a little longer and is ideal for marathon training.
